Agustín Alonso, director of Azata Golf, the latest addition to the golf offer in Estepona, is a management professional with extensive and recognized experience in the sector.
Born in Valladolid, she studied Professional Golf Management in the United States. He finished his degree with a Masters in Marketing and Golf Management and then worked on the Ladies European Tour (LET) for eight years. The first two years he worked as manager and caddie for his sister Carmen Alonso (LET professional), and then he worked as referee and tournament director, combining one of those years as tournament director of the Banesto Tour.
When his first daughter was born, he moved with his family to Italy to work as a manager at Le Robinie Golf Club in Milan.
After four months, he had the opportunity to return to Spain and was hired by La Cala Resort in Mijas, Costa del Sol. He spent three years as director of golf operations. “It was,” he recalls, “a very enriching period on a professional level: he managed the three courses, the academy, events, competitions, coordinated maintenance, restaurant…”. Then he received “a very good” proposal at La Cañada Golf Club, in the Sotogrande area, and he accepted it because with this experience he would complete his resume of managing both social and commercial courses.
He spent two years as managing director of the Cadiz club and then joined Azata Golf, where, as it is a new course, he has had to take care of all the necessary aspects for the opening to be done with all the guarantees, being in charge, among other things, of the design of the clubhouse and of many issues directly related to the golf course. You can already enter www.azatagolf.com, where you will see all the services offered.
Agustín is officially a 2.5 handicap, although he doubts that in practice he will meet it because his exhaustive dedication to this new project has prevented him for a long time from picking up the clubs to enjoy golf.
