Opened in 1993, the Alhaurín Golf Resort is a high altitude course, and not only in the geographical sense, as it is located in a beautiful mountain setting just over ten minutes from the coast.
This Costa del Sol complex consists of an 18-hole par 72 course designed by Severiano Ballesteros, and another 9-hole par 3 course also designed by the famous Cantabrian player. It also has a driving range and a golf academy, among other sports facilities, including a regulation-spec soccer field. The resort also has a four-star hotel and 38 spacious rooms.
The 18-hole course is really impressive, daring, surprising and certainly does not leave its players indifferent. In addition to the fun of the game, throughout the entire layout along Alhaurín Golf you can enjoy the best views over the Sierra de Mijas and the Mediterranean Sea.
Alhaurín Golf Resort, which this year has undergone a change in ownership, is living a new and exciting stage under the leadership of its current president, Jordi Caralt Coloma.
-What goals has the new ownership of the resort set for itself?
-The objectives are very clear and are based on three strategic points. The first one, to place the golf course within the top 25 in Spain and to keep the pitch & putt within the top 5 in Spain.
Secondly, to position ourselves as a reference in the segment of soccer team concentrations. For this purpose, we have exclusive facilities that are not shared with third parties and our soccer field, which is simply unbeatable.
In short, to position Alhaurín Golf Resort as a multifunctional complex that can satisfy the expectations of our clients in a global way.
-What are the peculiarities of this complex?
-It is home to a golf course designed by Severiano Ballesteros, a pitch & putt course, a driving range, two restaurants, two bars, a hotel, swimming pool and saunas, FIFA soccer field, tennis courts and employees who go out of their way to make their customers happy.
-One of the great attractions of Alhaurín Golf is undoubtedly the course designed by Seve. Could you describe it briefly?
-I can’t fool you: it’s a very fun course but at the same time demanding. It is very important not to lose concentration throughout the course, and above all to try to enjoy your surroundings.
-In your opinion, what is the mark that Seve has left on Alhaurín Golf?
-Its design and privileged location between mountains overlooking the sea.
What other golf facilities does the resort have besides the 18-hole course?
-It has an indoor and outdoor driving range, 9 holes par three, a putting green and a golf academy for all levels.
-In addition to very spacious rooms, what features does the Alhaurín Golf hotel have?
-Mainly its tranquility and its gastronomy.
-Why did you take the reins of the Alhaurín Golf resort?
-We had the opportunity to buy the complex and we saw a lot of possibilities, both in the golf and hotel areas. On paper, but when we arrived and saw all the facilities, we fell in love and decided not to let this opportunity pass us by.
-Golf and soccer: why such a peculiar and difficult to find mix in the same resort?
-When we took over the complex there was no soccer field, but in front of the hotel we had a space big enough to develop it. We brought in the best professionals and saw that it was feasible. For us it was important to try to deseasonalize the hotel, and what better way than giving it another business channel. We at the property are very satisfied with the decision.
