The Aloha Golf Club, undoubtedly one of the leading clubs in Spain, host of major tournaments of the European Tour, such as the Andalusia Open, has carried out during the last few months important reforms in its clubhouse, which, in addition to modernizing, expanding and making it more functional, have given it an undoubted touch of elegance. This club, which already has a first-class golf course, now also has a clubhouse to match.
Rafael Fontán, president of Aloha, explains the works carried out this year, which have been directed by the architect Rodolfo Baldrich and executed by the construction company Bailón.
“First,” he notes, “we built a new golf reception, which we inaugurated for the Andalusia Open. We changed location and totally refurbished the pro-shop, which was previously in another building.”
“Of the most visible things we have done, perhaps,” he continues, “is the wide new entrance to the club, with a gable roof and a traffic circle in front of it so that people can be dropped off at the same door and then park in front of it. This entrance has a large landscaped area, with green grass, in which we have planted a large emblematic tree of the Mediterranean, a centennial olive tree, and many large cypress trees”.
“From there,” continues the club president, “you descend to the cafeteria by an impressive staircase, also new, made in light marble so that everything is kept in soft tones, nothing overloaded. The ceiling is made of wood, as in the rest of the clubhouse. Outside, the floor is made of a very Andalusian natural stone called “olivillo”, which I think looks very nice”.
“We have installed,” he adds, “lighting that is very appropriate for all this, with indirect lights and small spotlights on the trees and other spaces, which makes it very cozy and attractive to come here already at night. We still have a bit of decorating to do, but the projects are in place and we will be able to decide shortly.”
“We also need to provide a specific use for the building next to the pro-shop,” Fontán explains. “We will most likely make a specialized golf gym there, pilates type, with stretching, etc, designed to improve the game, and of course facilitate fitness.”
The cafeteria has also been enlarged, approximately by a quarter; a wine cellar has been set up, and a large checkroom is being built for when there are dinners, etc. In one of the parts gained by the enlargement, a sitting area will be set up, with sofas, coffee tables….
-Is the clubhouse already at the level you wanted?
-Yes, but we still need to update and improve the decoration, as I mentioned before.
-And what remains of important works?
-Above all, we want to make a new parking lot, adding one more height to the current one, so that there will never again be parking problems. We also want to improve the beach bar, update the floor of the large terrace we have and give a solution to the large area at the back, which is a bit dull, so that it can be used all year round.
-And all that by when?
-We would like to do the parking lot and gym in 2013 and the terrace and the rest a little more quietly.
