Álvaro Mueller-Baumgart brilliantly wins the Spanish Under 18 Championship

The Andalusian Álvaro Mueller-Baumgart has taken a new step forward in his climb towards the elite of national amateur golf by winning with a brilliant performance the Spanish Championship Under 18 Men 2019, played at the course of Las Pinaíllas (Albacete).

The golfer from RCG Guadalmina (Marbella) arrived at the tournament riding a wave of optimism born from the good feelings he has had in recent months. His great participation in the recent edition of the Copa S. M. El Rey has strengthened that confidence, as has been demonstrated in Las Pinaíllas.

Alvaro Mueller-Baumgart faced the final day from the lead, but with a scarce income, three strokes, over Albert Boneta from Barcelona, the other great protagonist of these four days of competition. Both players, as well as David Puig, third finalist, have invested in these last 18 holes 77 strokes, leaving the classification practically intact in its leading part.

In a more complicated day than the previous ones in terms of weather, the Malaga native had to score four bogeys and a double bogey at the 6th that could well have complicated his condition as leader.

Behind him, Albert Boneta, who had a couple of double bogeys, could barely squeeze his rival, although three birdies on the 11th and 15th holes could have put him in the fight for the victory.

For his part, David Puig managed to move up one place in the ranking to the detriment of the Valencian Hugo Aguilar (80 strokes), who finally had to share the fourth position with the Andalusian Pedro Marín (78).

With these results, the competition -scoring for the World Ranking and for the U18 and Cadet National Rankings- has been left without golfers under par, a condition that Álvaro Mueller-Baumgart did have on the 1st tee.
