Álvaro Quirós plays golf on a soccer field

Álvaro Quirós, one of the most renowned Spanish golfers today, made several exhibition shots at the Benito Villamarín during half-time of the league match between Betis and Atlético de Madrid, an action that raised great expectation among the fans and was a great success in the framework of the promotion of the Reale Seguros Open de España, which will take place at the RCG of Seville between May 3 and 6. The famous golfer from Cadiz, winner of the Open de España in the 2010 edition -which was held precisely in this same course in Seville- previously carried out, in the surroundings of the stadium of the Betic club, some golf baptisms to several fans. He also exchanged T-shirts with the president of Betis, Miguel Guillén.

Likewise, golfers dressed in period costumes in emblematic locations of the city of Seville, Golf Baptisms in central places of the Sevillian capital, a Centenary tournament with the presence of “béticos” and “sevillistas”, a gastronomic contest and the downloading of tickets for free on various websites are part of the actions carried out to publicize the Reale Seguros Open de España and encourage the attendance at the RCG of Seville between May 3 and 6, a professional golf tournament of the European Tour that features the best players of the Old Continent.

Some historical curiosities

Between 1956 and 1972, the Spanish Open was not played twice in a row in any course and, after the parenthesis of the “La Manga era”, with 5 editions between 1973 and 1977, it was not repeated until 1991, when the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid hosted the tournament twice in a row. The RACE (1992 and 1993), again the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid (1994 to 1996), El Prat (1998 and 1999) and San Roque Club (2005 and 2006) have been the other venues where the tournament has been repeated in recent years.
