Ignacio Puente, Ángel Hidalgo, Gonzalo García, Matyas Zapletal, Pablo Alonso and Pablo Heredia, have won for Andalusia the first edition of the 1st Division Interautonomic U18 Men’s Championship, held at Golf El Fresnillo (Ávila), after defeating today in a thrilling final against the Catalan team by 5-4.
The Andalusian team finished the morning foursomes with 2-1 against, after adding only the point of the pair formed by Pablo Heredia (Real Club de Golf de Sevilla) and Pablo Alonso (Guadalhorce Club de Golf).
However, they managed to overcome the result in an afternoon full of tension, in which the Andalusians showed their high level of play, with a brilliant performance in the individual confrontations against the Catalan team, who sold their victory at a high price.
The youngest of the team, Pablo Alonso, scored a point for Andalusia, after winning comfortably (6/5) to Marti Arribas. For his part, Angel Hidalgo, also from Malaga, won against Eduard Rousaud 4/3, and Pablo Heredia from Seville got his point after beating Victor Garcia Broto 2/1.
However, the Catalonians Joel Moscatel and David Puig scratched the points of their clashes against Ignacio Puente and Gonzalo García, leaving the score 4-4, and leaving all eyes on the duel between Matyas Zapletal and Lucas Vacarisas.
Finally, on the last hole, Matyas Zapletal, was more successful and got the coveted point with which Andalusia inaugurates the list of winners of this new competition.
The champion team has been captained by the player of Marbella Golf & Country Club, Antonio Pimentel, and has been assisted by Ivan Hurtado as coach.
Third place went to the team from Comunidad Valenciana, which defeated Madrid 3-2; fifth place to Castilla y León, which won 3-2 against Baleares; and seventh place to Cantabria, which defeated Navarra 4-1. Precisely the Navarre team loses the category for 2016.
Beyond the final results, special mention should be made of the performance of Pablo Heredia from Real Club de Golf de Sevilla, who won all six matches he played, both in pairs and singles, and Ángel Hidalgo from Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, who scored 5 of the 6 points played.
Precisely Angel Hidalgo, along with Ignacio Puente, become with this victory the only players who have in their track record with an Interautonomic U14, U16 and now U18. As a curiosity, it is worth remembering that the two of them, together with Gonzalo García (El Candado) from Malaga, also participated last year in the Andalusian victory in the last edition of the Interautonómico U16 Male, which was also decided in an exciting final against Catalonia.
This new competition replaces the Interautonómico Sub 16, and widens the age range and the number of players per team, with each team competing with six golfers in the First Division and four in the Second Division.
