
The Andalusian team, captained by Mario Galiano Trujillano and integrated by José Mateo, Leonardo Lilja, Antonio Cruz-Conde, Mario Galiano, Carlos Leandro and Víctor Pastor, has won its second consecutive its second consecutive title in the Inter-territorial U-25 Men 1st Division REALE, “Santi Ollé Memorial”, by defeatingby defeating with clearly in the final against the Basque Country.
As was the case last year, the two teams met in this final round and victory once again fell to the Andalusian side, which thus won its fourteenth title (1985, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 1992, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2012 and 2013) and reaffirmed its position as the most successful team in this competition.
The final began with some tremendously close and exciting morning foursomes. In fact, the Andalusians managed to take a 2-1 lead thanks to the points scored by the pair José Mateo-Antonio Cruz-Conde on the 19th hole, while Mario Galiano and Carlos Leandro won on the 18th.
In the individual confrontations, Andalusia did not give the Basque team the slightest chance of a comeback and certified an undisputed 7-2 victory thanks to the victories of José Mateo, Antonio Cruz-Conde, Carlos Leandro and Víctor Pastor.
Impeccable track record
The Andalusian team made a great start to the defense of the title at the Club de Golf Peralada (Girona), and with a total of 354 strokes, led the qualifying round to position itself as the first seed of the championship.
In the quarterfinals the Andalusian sextet defeated the Canary Islands by 5.5-3.5 after some foursomes where our team took advantage (2-1), and some singles that sentenced the elimination with the convincing victories of Antonio Cruz-Conde by 5/3 and Mario Galiano by 6/5.
In the semifinals, Andalusia showed its good form and practically eliminated Catalonia in the foursomes, which ended with a 3-0 score. Finally, the defending champions sealed their ticket to the final by a 7-2 score.
