The Andalusian team has finished in second position in the Spanish Interautonomic Championship U18 Men’s 1st Division, which has been played in four days at the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina.
The Andalusians have defended until the last moment the title they won last year, during the first edition of the tournament, but the Madrilenians have tightened today in the final day, which was going uphill for the Andalusians since the morning foursomes, which ended 3-0 for the Madrilenians.
In the afternoon, our players have fought in each of the individual matches, showing once again their great game against an opponent that has been very firm from the first moment. Finally, Andalusia only scored the victory of Angel Hidalgo against Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra by 3&2. A final result that, in any case, does not reflect the desire with which each of the Andalusians has fought until the last moment to revalidate the title.
The Andalusian team was made up of players from Real Club de Golf Guadalmina Ángel Hidalgo and Felipe Barrena, Gonzalo García -from Real Club de Golf El Candado-, Pablo Alonso -from Guadalhorce Club de Golf-, and the members of Real Club de Golf de Sevilla, Gonzalo Leal and Nacho Puente. The players were accompanied at all times by their coach, Iván Hurtado, and by Antonio Pimentel, in the role of captain.
The combined team started the first day – played in medal play mode – in second position, only surpassed, precisely, by the team from Madrid. In the quarterfinals, the Andalusians beat Castilla y León and, yesterday, certified their passage to the final after beating the Basque team 6-3.
In the consolation final, the Basque Country team won 3.5-1.5 against Catalonia, while in the fight for fifth place Cantabria beat the Balearic Islands by the same score.
Another focus of interest of the day was the duel to avoid relegation between Comunidad Valenciana and Castilla y León. Both teams showed a high level of play that resulted in a vibrant duel from which the Levantines emerged victorious by 3-2. Thus, Castilla y León will play the 2nd Division event in 2017.
His place will be taken by Navarra, which has been the winner of the Spanish Championship Interautonomic U18 Men 2nd Division REALE, also played in Guadalmina. The Navarrese team defeated the Canary Islands in the final by 4-2.
