Costa Daurada to host the IGTM 2013

The fair of the international golf tourism market, International Golf Travel Market, will be based on the Costa Daurada in its 2013 edition.

Organized by Reed Travel Exhibitions, the world’s leading golf event for the travel trade, its buyers and the media, the next edition of IGTM will be held from November 11-14, 2013 at one of Europe’s most vibrant new golf destinations: Lumine Mediterranea Beach & Golf Community.

Located one hour south of Barcelona, and only 15 minutes from Reus airport, the Costa Daurada region will showcase its 240 kilometers of sandy beaches, quiet villages and breathtaking scenery, as well as its cultural and historical sights, first-class gastronomic offerings and, of course, its luxury golf courses and leisure resorts.

Calle Carlsson, general manager of Lumine Golf & Beach Club, which is part of Lumine Mediterranean Beach & Golf Community, commented: “IGTM represents a unique opportunity for the Costa Daurada to develop strategic business relationships, while showcasing its product to a crowded audience. It is vitally important for the region to demonstrate not only how its diverse offering already attracts golfers from established markets, but also how the expertise and quality of its products and services, as well as its commitment to facilitating the business pathway, will encourage tour operators to send clientele to the region”.

With a wide variety of golf courses designed by renowned architects, such as Robert Trent Jones Jr, and golfing figures such as Greg Norman, José María Olazábal and Bernhard Langer, the Costa Daurada has all the ingredients to establish itself among the most important golf destinations in Europe.

The area’s first golf course, the Costa Daurada GC, opened in 1983, laying the groundwork for seven other resorts, including one of Spain’s leading players, Bonmont Terres Noves GC, and the latest addition to golf in the region, the critically acclaimed Lumine Golf & Beach Club, managed by the international golfing expertise of Troon Golf.

“Spain has been a regular venue for IGTM over the years. However, this will be the first time it will be held in the northeastern part of the country,” said Peter Grimster, IGTM show director. “Over the past two years, the Costa Daurada has embarked on a campaign aimed at establishing this Spanish area as an emerging golf destination that we believe has the potential to become one of the most important golf centers in Europe.”
