Costa del Sol attends IGTM 2019 to showcase the destination’s offer in the golf segment

The Costa del Sol will be present, together with Turismo Andaluz, at the XXII edition of the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) to be held from 14 to 17 October in Marrakech, with the aim of continuing to work on knowledge and improving the reputation of the Costa del Sol Golf, establish new contacts and opportunities for the promotion and marketing of the destination in traditional markets, as well as in strategic markets such as the American, Canadian or Asian.

IGTM is one of the most internationally recognized golf industry events, bringing together a total of 1,300 golf travel industry professionals from more than 50 countries, including some 500 golf tourism suppliers, more than 400 golf tour operators who collectively control 80% of the global golf tourism market, and around 100 international journalists.

The president of Turismo Costa del Sol, Francisco Salado, has pointed out the importance of attending this fair as “it is an unmissable event for professionals in the sector, a meeting place for the global golf travel community in which more than 9.5 million euros in business is generated each year”.

Francisco Salado has assured that the entity also has as objectives “to study the promotional strategies employed by competing European destinations, investigate and assess the behavior of this segment with respect to the booking of accommodation and golf packages in Málaga-Costa del Sol for the winter season 2019/20, assess our competitive environment, establish contact with the specialized media in order to inform them about the improvements and developments of the destination, as well as to study the tourism and golf offer offered by Morocco”.

This will be the 22nd edition of IGTM and as in other years, there will be an important participation from Andalusia, Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia and the Canary and Balearic Islands. A total of 44 companies and entities from Andalusia will travel to Marrakech to participate in this international fair, of which 20 belong to the province of Malaga: Chaparral Golf Club, Cabopino and Paraíso Golf; Doña Julia Golf – Real Golf Studio; Fuerte Group Hotels; Hotel Estival Torrequebrada; Hotel Los Monteros Spa & Golf R esort; Keminpski Hotel Bahía Marbella – Estepona; La Cala Resort; Los Arqueros Golf; Los Naranjos Golf Club – Marbella; Marbella, 5* Destination; Meliá Hotels International Andalucía; Ona Valle Romano Golf & Resort; Parador De Málaga Golf Resort; Santa Clara Marbella – Montenmedio; Select Holiday Resorts; The Palm Experience Hotels; The Westin La Quinta Golf Resort & Spa; Villa Padierna Golf Club.

Costa del Sol Tourism representatives have scheduled a total of 45 appointments, in addition to networking lunches and dinners, talks and technical meetings on such important topics for the Costa del Sol as the Solheim Cup, the 3D Golfvacanties FamTrip, the follow-up of the Ambassador Cup tournament, as well as the follow-up of the pre-IGTM FamTrip.

The Costa del Sol has intensified its promotion at this annual event through various actions and, in this edition will be a partner of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), so the logo of the destination will have a presence on the website of the fair, as well as in IGTM; presence at the IAGTO Bar night, which attracts about 400 delegates; presence at the gala dinner organized by the organization, which will bring together more than 600 congress participants; the Costa del Sol logo on the photocall located in the IAGTO Pavilion; honorable mention at the IAGTO awards ceremony; presence in 6 weekly e-newsletters launched by IAGTO prior to the fair, aimed at its 5,000 members, as well as in the IAGTO catalogue.5,000 members, as well as in the official IGTM catalog, among others.

Another of the objectives of the Costa del Sol is to continue promoting cooperation between Morocco and the Costa del Sol thanks to the new air route that Vueling launched last April and that has two weekly frequencies in summer and that meant 20,160 new seats, expanding to 24 connections with Malaga.

For more than 18 years, the Costa del Sol – Malaga has promoted the benefits of the destination in the main Moroccan issuing markets, such as Tangier, Rabat and Casablanca. Thanks to the two new weekly frequencies of Vueling Malaga – Marrakech – Malaga, a new market of interest for the destination is added to continue breaking the seasonality.

Vueling is the Spanish airline with the largest presence in terms of number of destinations and fleet size, as well as the second largest in terms of number of passengers carried within Spain. In Malaga it has twenty domestic and international routes, offering more than 1.6 million seats for the summer season, which is 12% more than the previous year.
