Donald, American Tour Golfer of the Year

He was already number one in the world, but now Englishman Luke Donald became number one in the eyes of golfers on the American Tour, the PGA Tour.

Donald capped a sensational campaign by winning the Tour Golfer of the Year award, the most significant of the end-of-season awards because it is decided by the players themselves. He became the first Briton to win the award since the award was established in 1990.

“It’s a great honor to close what has been a fabulous year for me,” Donald said from the Australian Masters in Melbourne. “Thank you to all the players for their votes. Obviously there were other people deserving of votes and I think my consistency and winning at Disney and winning the money rankings was a deciding factor.”

Donald, number one in earnings on the world’s top two professional tours, North American and European, beat Keegan Bradley, Bill Haas, Webb Simpson and Nick Watney by what one manager briefed on the results said was a huge margin.
