Finca Cortesin continues to attract leading talent with appointment of José Ignacio Olea

Finca Cortesín, one of the world’s leading golf resorts and host of the 2023 Solheim Cup, has confirmed the appointment of José Ignacio Olea as its new Director of Golf.

With more than two decades of valuable experience in the golf industry, spanning various operational, management, leadership and sales roles, Olea joins the Finca Cortesin team from Santa Maria Golf & Country Club in Panama.

His extensive career has taken him to various corners of the world, including the United States, Portugal and Spain, contributing to his well-established connections within the industry.

As Director of Golf, Olea will enhance the legacy of hosting the Solheim Cup, using the resort’s position as one of the world’s premier golf destinations to drive new membership and real estate opportunities.

Renowned for its immaculate conditioning and undulating design, the magnificent Costa del Sol course designed by Cabell Robinson provided the perfect backdrop for one of the most spectacular editions of the Solheim Cup, in which Europe came from behind to retain the trophy after a thrilling 14-14 draw.

Speaking about his appointment to the position, Olea said, “I am very honored to have joined Finca Cortesin. The resort’s commitment to excellence is evident, showing a clear and consistent strategic vision to deliver unparalleled experiences for its members and guests. Finca Cortesin is an industry leader and I am excited to be a part of its continued success, leveraging the benefits of hosting the Solheim Cup in 2023.”

Vicente Rubio, president of Finca Cortesín, added: “José Ignacio’s extensive experience and proven track record in the golf industry will make him a valuable addition to our team. His leadership and strategic vision align perfectly with our overall commitment to excellence. We are confident he will play a key role in enhancing our position as the global leader.

Since graduating with a Double Major in Marketing and Management, with a minor in Professional Golf Management, from Coastal Carolina University in 2005, Olea has also received numerous qualifications, including Class A Professional status from the PGA of America.

Finca Cortesin will seek to leverage Olea’s experience in operational management and strategic planning to ensure that the resort remains at the forefront of the industry by providing a premium experience with exceptional hospitality and service throughout its operations for years to come.

About Finca Cortesin
Opened in March 2006 and set on 532 acres, Finca Cortesin is an independent luxury golf, hotel and spa destination located between Marbella and Sotogrande. Overlooking the Mediterranean on one side and the tranquil Casares Mountains on the other, Finca Cortesin was designed in the style of a traditional Spanish hacienda. The Andalusian resort features an elegant 67-suite hotel, an acclaimed 18-hole golf course and a 6,000-square-meter beach club.

Designed by renowned architect Cabell Robinson, the golf course has hosted numerous professional golf tournaments, including the Volvo World Matchplay Championship on three occasions and, in 2021, reached even greater heights when it was awarded the rights to host one of the world’s most important golf and sporting events: the Solheim Cup. Contested from September 18-24, 2023, Finca Cortesin welcomed the two teams led by their respective captains, Suzann Pettersen and Stacy Lewis, to compete in the biennial tournament that is revered as one of the fiercest rivalries seen in all of sport.
