That the celebration of the Solheim Cup on the Costa del Sol next September is having and will have as positive effects, or more, as those produced by the Ryder Cup 25 years ago is something that no one doubts.
The truth is that the Solheim Cup,” says Francisco de Lancastre, general manager of Golf and Leisure Operations, “is having a very positive impact on Finca Cortesín, in all our business areas, both in real estate and in the hotel and golf.
“In golf,” he continues, “we have seen a significant increase in memberships in the last year for the club, actually over the last two years, although with dramatic growth in the last twelve months.”
-You mentioned residential development at the resort. How many properties do you think have been sold due to the direct or indirect impact of the Solheim Cup?
-It is difficult to establish a direct correlation, but we do see that hosting this tournament generates greater interest in our entire resort. We have had a fantastic year, also for post-pandemic macroeconomic reasons, but without a doubt hosting this competition multiplies the attraction for the resort. This year we will deliver 36 new properties, which reflects the interest in Finca Cortesín.
The golf club already has a reasonable number of members, but there are still possibilities to admit more while maintaining the club’s exclusivity…
-Yes, of course. We have a unique membership model in our environment: it is a lifetime and transferable right of use, which entails several particularities that make it quite flexible. Although we have had a substantial increase in membership over the past two years, we still have an open membership process.
We have an individual and a family model. All of this gives the club an important and attractive social life, and more so every day. We are a club where golf fans and golf players look for -as in all our resort- the best of services.
The social club atmosphere is growing and consolidating: we have monthly tournaments and several competitions with other national or international golf clubs, etc. Although as I said our club is quite particular, we have no committees or club captain. We work in a different way than other member clubs.
-What are the advantages of becoming a member here compared to other clubs?
-Finca Cortesin is a “lifestyle”. Whoever identifies with our resort looks for the best, and the golf club is a projection of that unique and quality lifestyle that is breathed throughout this great resort.
Of course, in addition to the advantages that members have on the golf course where we have specific tee times for them, and we do not admit more than one hundred players per day, a member of our club also has several advantages within the facilities offered by the resort.
So the number of members at Finca Cortesin will never be high…
-That’s right. We are going to keep a strict control on this. Our idea is to become, in the future, a members club and for clients who are staying in our hotel; and as the hotel has only 67 rooms the number of players will always be reduced and there will be a great availability for our members.
