Great opportunity to compete in one of the best courses in Spain: RCG Sotogrande

Those who want to enjoy and compete in one of the best courses in Spain, the Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande, now has a great opportunity to do so thanks to the Andalucía Golf Challenge Tournament, which takes place on July 3 and 4.

This open amateur tournament is part of the Circuit that, organized by Andalucía Golf magazine, has been played for the last seven years in the most outstanding courses of the Costa del Sol. The Andalucía Golf Challenge has become a classic in the golf calendar of this autonomous community, creating great expectation and interest among golfers from all over Europe thanks to a combination of high quality venues, excellent organization and great prizes.

The inaugural event of the summer season was held with great success at the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina last June 17, and the RCG Sotogrande will now take over the baton with two tournaments: Monday 3 and Tuesday July 4. Players can register either for both days or for either of the two, and the registration fee per tournament is 145 euros. For those competing in both events, the best score will count towards the final standings.

In addition to playing on one of the best courses in Spain, in impeccable condition after its renovation, participants will have the opportunity to compete for magnificent prizes and enjoy a cocktail during the awards ceremony.

The origins of RCG Sotogrande date back to the early 1960s, when the founder of the prestigious urbanization from which the golf club takes its name, Joseph McMicking, told the renowned designer Robert Trent Jones that he could personally choose the estate to build a first 18-hole course without any restrictions.

It was Jones’ first project in Europe and marked a milestone in the construction of a golf course on this side of the Atlantic, not only for its magnificent design, but also for the innovations that surrounded the project. It was the first course in Europe to be seeded with Bermuda 419 and the first to install a fully automated irrigation system.

After half a century of existence (the course was inaugurated in 1964), the Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande needed an update and in 2015 renovation works began in two phases, which were finally completed in July 2016.

The seventh edition of the Andalucía Golf Challente Circuit coincides with the 30th anniversary of Andalucía Golf / España Golf as the oldest bilingual golf magazine in Spain of those currently published.
