The splendid Old Course of San Roque Club was the setting for the third Andalucía Golf Challenge summer tournament, organized for the fifth year by the publishing company of Andalucía Golf magazine. The first course of the Campo de Gibraltar resort, designed by Dave Thomas and which in 2005 hosted the Open de España, a European Tour tournament which the following year was played at the New Course of San Roque Club, presented splendid conditions for playability. The tournament was a success in terms of participation, with more than 100 players taking part.
As regards the sporting results, in the first category, the victory went to Pedro Cavero, with 39 points. Second place, with one point less, went to Unail Mendizábal, and third place, with the same score, went to César San Sebastián.
In the second category, Ignacio Martín won with 40 points. Second, with one point less, was Álvaro Salinero, while third place went to Manuel Salinero, who totaled 37 points.
The special prizes went to Luis Blas (closest ball to the flag), María del Mar Fernández (longest drive ladies) and Eduardo Corsini (longest drive gentlemen).
The competition distributed important prizes for the first three classified in each category, provided by TomTom, fairways+blue, Holiday Golf and D.O. Somontano. There was not enough aim among the participants to get the Yamaha motorcycle that was awarded to whoever got a hole in one.
The prize-giving ceremony was presided over by Andalucía Golf editor Antonio Sánchez, and the assistant director of the host club, Gonzalo Goy.
The next appointment of the Andalucía Golf Challenge Circuit 2015 is on August 22nd at La Reserva de Sotogrande. Registration to participate in this open tournament must be made at the golf course.
