“Baviera Golf has one of the best maintained courses on the Costa del Sol”.
Ignacio Iturbe is one of those people who seems to have the gift of ubiquity, as he is often present at institutional or private events related to the world of golf, provided, of course, that his responsibilities as director of Baviera Golf allow him to do so. His thing is hard and professional work… and planning his agenda very well.
In addition to directing the golf club located in the coastal region of Axarquia, Iturbe is the delegate in the province of Malaga of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation and deputy to the Presidency.
-Baviera Golf is located in a region, the Axarquia, with great tourist attractions, do you think it is sufficiently known by golf tourists, how and why would you recommend it?
-The Axarquia region, a few minutes from Malaga capital, has the benefits of a subtropical microclimate (hence the cultivation of mangoes and avocados, among others), miles of beaches and a variety of beautiful villages with a magnificent gastronomy, cultural heritage, etc., which make it a great attraction in inland tourism.
For players, as we are not a golf destination (only two courses) we have the advantage of not being overcrowded, and this weakness becomes an opportunity, as it makes us even more attractive to golfers.
I would recommend it for the experience of knowing and enjoying something unforgettable; hence the repeat business of our clients.
-Your golf course has a reputation for being a great challenge, for being well maintained… What would you highlight the most about it?
-According to our customers and professionals, the maintenance of Baviera Golf is one of the best in the Costa del Sol, is one of our strengths, plus we have a first class restaurant and reference in our area. All services are almost personalized. The 18 holes present challenges, with moving greens, lakes to save in the game and a course suitable for all levels. It is also a course that can be done on foot because of the smoothness of its course, and there are several holes with spectacular scenery topped by the sea.
-What are the main strengths of Andalusian golf tourism in relation to its main competing destinations, such as other Spanish autonomous communities and the Portuguese Algarve?
-Our main strengths, among others, are the diversity and variety of services, communications, climate and excellence in quality. We have one of the best and most numerous offers of golf courses, in addition to a mature destination that is known by all the issuers of this sector. To this we add the hotel and hospitality offer that, with one of the main airports in Spain, makes us grow season by season.
-How do you think the promotion of the Costa del Sol golf destination could be improved, and should public administrations invest more resources in it?
-I believe that promotion needs to be endowed with more budget and more direct actions, both at the level of tour operators and the final public. We need to build loyalty among customers who, due to instability in certain destinations, visit us during these years.
