Ivon Reijers wins the Andalusia Women’s Cup in playoff at Atalaya

The Catalan golfer Ivon Reijers has won the Women’s Andalusia Cup after resolving in her favor an exciting play-off with the Andalusian Carmen Laguna, another of the great protagonists of the week at the Atalaya Golf & Country Club course (Estepona, Malaga).

Both golfers finished their third round with a cumulative score of 215 strokes, two over par, which forced a play-off in which a beautiful birdie by Ivon Reijers at the 18th gave her the victory, her first in an event that counts towards the National Rankings.

Born in Barcelona but a regular resident of Girona, Ivon Reijers has developed her sports and academic career at the University of Houston (USA) in recent years.

For her part, Carmen Laguna from Seville has been another of the pleasant news of the tournament on her return to competition in Spain after a few years training in Minnesota (USA). Like the player from Barcelona, her level this week has been excellent.

The final duel between Ivon Reijers and Carmen Laguna was the result of a card of 69 strokes (-2) of the Catalan -same result as in the first day- and a 73 (+2) of the Andalusian. Both signed two birdies at the 18th to access the play off playoff.

The third position has been for the Barcelona Dana-Helga Puyol, the Balearic Sandra Vázquez and the Asturian Paula Neira -leader at the beginning of the day-, all of them with +4 in their locker. A 77, the highest score of the week, took the player from the Blume National School out of the fight for the title.

Nicola Fall, Marta López and Alejandra Pasarín, all with +6, shared the sixth position.

Ivon Reijers, leader from the start

Reijers’ was the first name of the week, as she was the first leader on an opening day played in perfect weather. 69 strokes (-2) allowed the golfer from Barcelona to take the lead alone with an income of one stroke over María Villanueva, Sandra Vázquez and Alejandra Pasarín. Four birdies in the last four holes were the key to her round.

In addition to the under par rounds by the five aforementioned golfers, Judith Castro, Dana-Helga Puyol and Elena Arias deserved special mention for their pars.

On the second day, Paula Neira took the lead with a magnificent round of 68 strokes (-3), the result of four birdies and a single failure. Only the Asturian was under par (-2), being her biggest threat Carmen Laguna, who signed the best round of the day along with Paula Neira and was at par.

Meanwhile, Ivon Reijers fell slightly with a round of 77 strokes. At the end of the second day, a cut was established that 53 golfers passed.

It should be recalled that this tournament is scoring for the National Rankings Absolute, Girl and Cadet Women and for the World Ranking.
