Jacobo Cestino and Charlotte Puts, winners of the VII Barbésula Trophy

The Malaga-born Jacobo Cestino and the Dutch Charlotte Putts have won the seventh edition of the Barbésula Trophy, a scoring event for the men’s and women’s rankings of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, which was held over the weekend in two days at the La Cañada Golf Club.

Jacobo Cestino -who finished the first day in third position with a round of 71 strokes- yesterday delivered a card of 69 (-2), which earned him the first place in the scratch classification, as well as the special Mid-Amateur scratch and handicap prize.

After him -and with a one-stroke difference- the second place was occupied by the member of the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla, Antonio Aguilera -author of the best scratch and handicap round of the second day- with 69 strokes, and 141 to the total. For his part, the Isla Canela player, Juan Agüera, who finished second on Saturday at the end of the first day, completed the podium in third place with rounds of 70 and 74 strokes.

As for the women’s category, there were no surprises, and the Dutch player of Jason Floyd Academy, Charlotte Puts -who headed the list of participants as one of the favorites, with the lowest handicap- maintained during the second day the first place she had already achieved in the first. With a total of 152 strokes, and after adding 79 today to the 73 she shot on Saturday, she won with only one stroke ahead of Miraflores Golf’s Magdalena Cervinkova.

Third place went to the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla player, Marta Ayala, with rounds of 79 and 77 strokes.

As for the handicap classifications, Antonio Aguilera and Magdalena Cervinkova occupied the top positions. The list of winners was completed by Sergio Domínguez (El Paraíso), leader of the men’s classification after the first day, and author of the best scratch and handicap round on Saturday, with 69 strokes.

The awards ceremony was attended by, among others, Belén Jiménez, Education Councilor of the City of San Roque; Antonio Navas, Sports Councilor of the City of San Roque; Candelaria Flores, President of the Women’s Committee of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation; José Chapaza, President of La Cañada Golf Club, and Rafael Toval, Chief Referee of the tournament.
