Miguel Ángel Jiménez (50 years old) has married Austrian economist Susanne Styblo (39) in a civil ceremony held at the golf school he runs and that bears his name in Torremolinos. The wedding, which took place on May 3 in the open air and under a splendid spring day, was attended by some 250 guests, mostly relatives of the bride and groom and many from the bride’s homeland, as well as a handful of friends including golfers José María Olazábal and Alejandro Cañizares and bullfighter Pepín Liria.
The Malaga-born golfer, who holds the record for the oldest golfer to win a European Tour tournament, wanted to remember his last successful Masters and get married under a pergola located on the 7th hole of his school’s course, which emulates the 12th at Augusta and which he himself has jokingly christened Angustias.
This is the second wedding of Jiménez, whose first wife, Montse, has two children, both boys. His engagement to Susanne Styblo was made official when they were photographed together during the presentation ceremony of the 2012 Ryder Cup.
After six o’clock in the afternoon, the bride, in a white dress, arrived at the wedding hole aboard a vintage Rolls-Royce. The civil ceremony was officiated by the mayor of Torremolinos, Pedro Fernandez, who addressed those present in Spanish and German, while the chords of a string trio played. A friend of the bride and one of Jiménez’s sons acted as godparents.
At the end of the ceremony they enjoyed a drink at the same golf course and later they went to a restaurant in Churriana, Jiménez’s hometown, where the couple lives, for dinner.
The bride and groom, who celebrated his bachelor party with friends at a beach bar the day before, addressed those present, thanking them for sharing “the most important day of our lives” with the couple.
Jiménez will take a few days off from competition (he will miss The Player Championship in the United States) and will reappear at the Spanish Open, which will be played at the PGA of Catalonia from the 15th to the 18th of this month.
