Julia Lopez, first victory of 2024 for Spanish golf in the U.S. Collegiate League

The Malaga-born Julia Lopez has won the Darius Rocker Intercollegiate, a U.S. Collegiate League tournament held at the Long Cove Club course, in the town of Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. This triumph opens the Spanish golf’s win list for the year 2024 in the NCAA.

Julia López, a native of Benahavís who is continuing her athletic and academic training at Mississippi State University, accumulated 208 strokes over the three days of competition.

After submitting very disparate cards of 67 and 77, the Spanish golfer surprised all her rivals with an almost perfect round of 64 strokes, seven under par, with eight birdies and only one bogey, which led her to lead the ranking along with three other players -Jennifer Cai, Hannah Darling and Farah O’Keefe-, all tied with 208 strokes. That 64 in the final round, the best score of all participants, was vital to grant the victory to Julia Lopez.

Spanish amateur women’s golf already knew what it was like to win this Darius Rocker Intercollegiate. Carolina López Chacarra from Madrid also won this tournament in 2022.

Julia López adds her seventh victory in different NCAA tournaments since she won the Sam Golden Invitational in 2021. Current European Senior Champion, the golfer from Malaga has an increasingly brilliant sporting resume in which also highlights the gold medals in the European Under 18 Team Championship 2021, the World University Team Championship 2022 and the European Team Championship 2023.
