Germany’s Martin Kaymer won the HSBC Champions in Shanghai on Sunday, one of the events of the World Golf Championships series, which brings together the best players in the world, thanks to a card of 63 on the last and fourth day of the tournament.
Kaymer, sixth in the world ranking, had a very good round with nine birdies and beat Sweden’s Fredrik Jacobson, who was the leader after the third day, by three strokes, while Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell finished third (272 strokes).
The former world number one started the day five strokes behind Freddie Jacobson’s lead, but cemented a great comeback that condemned the Swede to second place, who also completed his worst round in the tournament held at the International Club.
The German surprised his rivals with his inspiration, which led him to a performance of nine under par for a total of 63 strokes in his last card. Especially noteworthy was the second part of his round, where he accumulated seven birdies in an interval of nine holes.
Thus, Kaymer took the victory with three strokes of income on Jacobson, four on Graeme McDowell and five on Charl Schwartzel, Paul Casey and Rory McIlroy, who could not do anything before the demonstration of his rival.
Among the Spanish, the best was Pablo Larrazábal in twentieth place, thirteen strokes behind the winner. Miguel Angel Jimenez, who started the day close to the best, sank to add a ‘double bogey’ and four ‘bogeys’ for only one ‘birdie’ to fall to 38th place.
