The hotel and golf resort hosted the commemorative events of its 30th anniversary. Hundreds of guests including friends, partners, clients and political and institutional representatives wanted to ratify, with their presence, the upward trajectory that has made it a benchmark of the Costa del Sol.
The event was attended by the General Manager of La Cala Resort, Sean Corte-Real; the mayor of Mijas, José Antonio González Pérez; the delegate of the Government of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga, Patricia Navarro Pérez; the Managing Director of Turismo Planificación Costa del Sol and representative of the Provincial Council of Málaga, Arturo Bernal; the delegate of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía, Nuria Rodríguez; as well as different authorities and managers of the resort.
Sean Corte-Real, who opened the event, had a few words of thanks to those present, for sharing “such a special occasion”. He also named all those who played a fundamental role in the history of La Cala Resort, such as Cabell B. Robinson (designer of the golf courses) and Pedro Negrette (general property manager), to whom he conveyed his gratitude “for pursuing that vision”. Corte-Real reviewed some of the magnitudes that have made this enclave great over three decades, such as “the 400 weddings celebrated, the three million golfers, the 40,000 spa treatments or the million guests” that have passed through its facilities. Finally, he also thanked FBD Hotels & Resorts for its commitment, which has always remained faithful to the project.
The mayor of Mijas, José Antonio González Pérez, pointed out that “30 years ago we formalized an alliance with La Cala Resort that is still standing”. He thanked the resort for “having taken the name of Mijas throughout Spain and beyond our borders” and for having “generated employment and wealth in the municipality”.
The Managing Director of Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol and representative of the President of the Provincial Council of Malaga, Arturo Bernal, stressed that La Cala Resort is a good example “of a place that combines a great complementary offer, something that characterizes the Costa del Sol”. “A part of the success of the golf segment is due,” he added, “to the professionals that there are in all the courses and, especially, to those here.”
For her part, the delegate of the Government of the Junta in Malaga, Patricia Navarro, referred to La Cala Resort as “a prestigious hotel that has managed to maintain that seal of quality” and praised “the great human capital that you have”. She then recalled the importance of the golf industry in a province that concentrates “70% of all the facilities in Andalusia” and that receives each year “600,000 visitors attracted exclusively by this sport.
Since its inception, the complex has experienced both quantitative and qualitative growth that has placed it among the most prestigious golf resorts on the continent. A few days ago, La Cala was chosen as the sixth best golf resort in Spain by the prestigious website specialized in this sport Leadingcourses.com.
Those responsible for the resort also wanted to reward the loyalty of customers and friends with the drawing of two prizes. The first, sponsored by Taylor Wimpey, was for the overall winner of the golf tournament held on the same day and consisted of a three-night package at the prestigious St. Andrews, considered the cradle of golf. The second prize, raffled among the attendees, consisted of four nights at the all-inclusive Castleknock Hotel in Dublin (Ireland), an establishment belonging to the FBD Hotels & Resorts group, owner of La Cala Resort.
All attendees enjoyed the live music, the exquisite themed gastronomy that also represented the culinary proposals of the different restaurants of La Cala Resort and the magnificent atmosphere created for such a unique occasion.
