The Superior Sports Council has qualified the facilities of the La Cañada Golf Course (Guadiaro, Cádiz) to locate the first Specialized Center for Golf Sports Technification to be set up in Spain.
Ángel Gutierrez, president of the Cadiz club, explains its characteristics.
“First of all -he says- I would like to emphasize and underline that this is the first golf technification center to be set up in our country. It is aimed at young Spanish athletes who, due to their age and potential, can become great golfers and good students, which is an essential condition for access”.
“The requirements for admission” – continues the President of La Cañada – are that they have Spanish nationality, as I have pointed out, Andalusian license, and that they are within the following categories:
Alevin, with a maximum handicap of 9.4; Infantil, with 7.4; Cadete, with 6.4; and Boy/Girl, with 4.4. In addition, I insist, a good academic record is essential”.
“The selection for admission is made by R.F.G.A. personnel and involves psychologists, doctors and golf professionals”.
-In 2014, the CETD of La Cañada starts up, what are the children who pass the selection process going to do here?
-They will have their classes as in any high performance sports center that will be set by the technicians following the instructions of the director of the CETD. Our goal is that children leave here with the lowest possible handicaps so that tomorrow they can be good golf professionals.
-How many children will the center receive this first “course”?
The admission period is not yet closed (mid-December), but there are already about twenty applications. We still have, logically, some shortcomings in the facilities that we will remedy in 2014.
We have to build three modules or classrooms where the swing analyzer, the putter analyzer, the medical care center, etc. will be located. At the moment we will install all this in our own school.
Both the mayor of San Roque and the Spanish Golf Federation have offered to help us finance the construction of these classrooms that will be located in front of the club’s school.
We already have the teachers, psychologists, doctors, etc. to start working.
