La Romana: Memorable Golf Experience in the Caribbean

The Piñero Group is a benchmark in the tourism sector with a particularly strong presence in the Caribbean. One additional dream that the fondly remembered Don Pablo Piñero incorporated into the group’s companies was the creation of residences where golf was required to play an essential role.

Added to the portfolio, to complement the Residential Riviera Maya development in Mexico, with its Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed course (chosen as the best resort in Mexico and Central America in 2017 by Golf Digest magazine), was Residencial Playa Nueva Romana – offering excellent golf options of the same high quality level, in the eastern part of the Dominican Republic.

A member of Robert Trent Jones Jr.’s same team, and following his work on the design and construction of the Riviera Maya course, Jack Lund designed and supervised the construction of La Romana Golf Club. As a result of the concept devised for this magnificent course, golfers are able to enjoy a design encompassing parkland, links and clifftop areas.

In addition to two five-star hotels, one of them luxury category and adults-only, a private beach with white sand surrounded by coconut trees for two kilometers, a beach club, sports tracks and (very soon) a marina for those who want to enjoy sailing and the area’s excellent, Residencial Playa Nueva Romana is home to two golf courses of exceptional quality.

The Dominican Republic is a well-established, top-quality golf destination. A gently warm climate is also present in its people, who are the island’s greatest asset. A round of golf assisted by a caddy, on a course featuring a superb design and excellent conditions, is an experience that every golfer should enjoy. Many of those who do, end up investing in a residential product that offers guaranteed value – and the opportunity of repeating the experience as many times as desired.

La Romana Golf Club is a fantastic example of golf at the highest level in the Dominican Republic. With its generous fairways that invite you to open your shoulders with the driver, wide and undulating (but “human”) greens and five tee platforms for players of all levels, the course is not too long and can be thoroughly enjoyed from the first hole. Furthermore, it belongs to the select club of “ocean” courses and, just like Pebble Beach, offers in a Dominican Republic setting such colorful features as “Teeth of the Dog”, “Tip of the Sword”, “Coral Reefs”, “The Rod” and “Big Beach”. No fewer than four of the greens at La Romana Golf Club are bathed by the Caribbean Sea. The experience of playing these holes at the top of a cliff is memorable (especially on those days when Eolo, god of the winds, decides he wants to be noticed).

In this same residential complex you can enjoy an exceptional nine-hole par-three course whose greens rival those of any major course in Spain. It is the ideal complement for those who allow themselves to fall in love with the Caribbean and live different seasons or the whole year in paradise. Run by Toni Planells, the academy – with its “Natural Golf Guidance” method – completes La Romana’s range of first-class golf amenities.

“We invite you to visit us and enjoy this great experience!” says La Romana Golf Club director Luis Navarro.
