An economist and auditor by profession and a golf referee and tournament director during his free time... Forty-five-year-old Pablo Mansilla has been elected president of the Royal Andalucian Golf Federation for the next four years.

He was the only candidate for the position and yesterday an extraordinary session of the General Assembly – with 35 of its 39 members present – unanimously confirmed his election to succeed Ángel de la Riva.

Pablo Mansilla first began playing golf when he was 13 years old, at Royal El Candado Golf Club in Málaga, and he currently plays off a five-handicap. His passion for the Rules of Golf encouraged him to sit for the Andalucian federation’s Regional Referee exam in 2006. The following year he qualified as a National Referee and in 2013 he was named an International Referee.

This year he was chosen by the International Golf Federation to be a referee at the Rio de Janeiro OIympics, an experience he later described as “a dream that will be difficult to repeat”.

In recent years, as a member of the federation’s executive committee, he has held the positions of sports director and president of the professionals and pitch & putt committees, as well as a member of the rules and sports discipline committees.
