Despite the threat of rain, 191 players came together to enjoy a superb day – ultimately free from water or heat – and the stunning La Dehesa Golf course.

Designed by the three times World Cup champion and Ryder Cup player Manuel Piñero, La Dehesa is a delight for all levels of players. It runs through a natural setting typical of the Madrid mountain range surroundings, without any buildings and featuring abundant vegetation.

The course is broken up into two quite distinctive layouts: the front nine is less hilly, while the back nine is more technical and is highlighted by spectacular areas of great beauty. We should also highlight the professionalism, kindness and dedication of the whole team at this magnificent club, including Amparo Jarné, a pleasure to work with, Carlos Hernán, in charge of the sports management side of things, and caddy master Raúl.

Consecutive starts were made from very early in the morning, and on the way from the first nine to the second players were able to enjoy excellent refreshments, including a ham and “salmorejo” sandwich, a banana and water, all served by the club's restaurant, which is masterfully managed by Goyo.

In addition to the club’s cafeteria, the restaurant is an excellent option for diners. They have a superb à la carte menu and a set menu of the day with starters and main courses that rival those on offer at the best clubs in Madrid.

The course was in superb condition, despite heavy rain falling the previous night when more than 30 litres per square metre was recorded. The greens were impeccable and all the players appreciated the state of the course.

The scratch and category one and two winners each won a place in the final of the Circuit, which is organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine and (in October) will determine the winners of five fabulous trips to the Riviera Maya.

As for the competition, the scratch winner was Jesús Gil Martínez (with 37 points). Santiago Yuste Moreno won category one (38 points), followed by Juan Manuel Rodríguez Tello and Marcos Guisado Silva (both 37). In category two, Gab Sik Han Hong led the way (45 points), Marcos González Moreno (44) was second and Gerard Xavier Vaque Lluis was third (also 44).

In addition to prizes for the top three in each category and the scratch winner, there were special prizes for nearest to the pin: on the 9th hole won by Antonio Quintana Velasco, and on the 13th won by Miguel Melgar Rodríguez.

The La Dehesa event was the 11th of as many as 30 tournaments scheduled to be held during the 13th edition of this hugely popular open amateur circuit, organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine. The Circuit covers all Andalucian provinces, in addition to other areas of central Spain, with the majority of events being held at top courses on the Costa del Sol.

The Circuit’s grand finale, which will decide the five winners of trips to the Mexican Caribbean, will be held at Almenara on 30 September, followed by a gala dinner at Gran Hotel Guadalpín Banús in Marbella.

Access to the final will be direct for the winners of each category and the leading scratch player in all the qualifying tournaments, while the rest of the places in the final will be awarded based on the Benahavís Ranking, calculated from points obtained in each leg.

The next event will be on 10 June at Marbella Club Golf Resort.

The top two finishers in each category and the scratch winner in the final, to be played on 30 September at Almenara, will travel to the Mexican Caribbean.
