The renowned Finca Cortesín course, venue for the 2023 Solheim Cup and three editions of the Volvo World Match Play Championship, will host the first leg of this year’s SAN MIGUEL ANDALUCÍA GOLF CHALLENGE-Destination Dominican Republic by Globalia Circuit on Saturday 17 February.
A total of 25 tournaments make up the 14th edition of this popular open amateur circuit organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf magazine. The circuit will cover most of the Andalucian provinces, as well as other cities in central Spain, with most of the legs being played on the Costa del Sol at top-level courses.
The circuit’s grand finale, which will decide the five winners of trips to the Dominican Caribbean, will be played on 23 September and will be followed by a gala dinner at the Gran Hotel Guadalpín Banús in Marbella.
Access to the final will be direct for the winner of each category and the scratch winner in each tournament leg, while the remaining places will be awarded according to a ranking based on points obtained in each event.
The Finca Cortesín tournament will offer major prizes for the scratch winner and the top three players in each category, as well as for closest to the pin. Tee-off is a shotgun start at 9.30 am, and the registration fee for the tournament is €195, including buggy, welcome pack, prize-giving cocktail reception and gifts raffle.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The design by American Cabell B. Robinson and attractive landscaping by Gerald Huggan capture the natural characteristics of the area, creating an ideal balance between 20 varieties of flora, typical Mediterranean forest and the course’s perfectly manicured Bermuda grass.
The excellent condition of the fairways and greens and the meticulous attention to detail make a round at Finca Cortesin a challenging test in an aesthetically exceptional setting.
This splendid Costa del Sol course, located in Casares municipality, has hosted numerous high-profile tournaments, including the 2023 Solheim Cup and the Volvo World Match Play Championship on three occasions (2009, 2011 and 2012) – two of the world's most prestigious professional golf competitions.
Renowned for its attention to detail, Finca Cortesín Hotel, Golf & Spa undertook a comprehensive upgrade of its greens in 2017, becoming the first golf course in Spain to feature a new type of environmentally friendly Bermuda grass.
