The Europa Course of La Cala Resort has been the magnificent venue for the last qualifying round of the Mijas Sun & Golf Circuit. Sponsored by the Mijas Town Hall in an initiative of the Mijas Golf Courses Association, this first edition of the Circuit consists of five tournaments plus a final, to be played on August 24th at Mijas Golf Los Lagos, which will be followed by a gala dinner at La Zambra Hotel.

Europa is a spectacular course but easier for the average golfer, with wide fairways, flatter terrain and slightly larger greens than its 'brothers' in the resort, the America and Asia courses. It is notable for a main bridge and four smaller bridges across the Ojén River, which appears on eight holes and crosses three fairways.

The scratch winner, Aitor Gorriti, who won with no less than 43 scratch points, 7 under the course, was a truly extraordinary result. However, he will not be able to play in the final of the Circuit, as he has other work commitments during those days.

The awards ceremony was presented by the Director of Golf at La Cala Resort, Robert Michell, and was attended by the Councillor for Tourism of Mijas Town Hall, Francisco Jerez. Also present from La Cala Resort were Edouard des Fontaines, Marketing Director, and Silvia Ortega, Head of Golf Accounts.

There were prizes in all the par 3 courses, where those who left the ball closest to the flag received a box of San Miguel beers, a partner brand of the Tour. The players were also able to enjoy San Miguel beers on the 10th hole, which helped to mitigate the heat of the day.

The best classified in La Cala get a place to play the final, where the prizes of seven vouchers to play for a whole year the courses of the Circuit, which apart from La Cala and Mijas Golf are Chaparral, La Noria, Cerrado del Águila and Miraflores, will be decided.

Another particularity of the Circuit is the support given to women's golf, so that a special ladies' category is established, giving access to the final to the two best classified in the special ladies' category who are not in the general prizes. The same is done for the best players, establishing a special scratch prize.

In this way, nine players in each tournament qualify for the grand final on Saturday 24th August. The Mijas Sun & Golf Circuit has as another hallmark the fact that the qualifying rounds are played on alternate Fridays during the summer months, making it a very pleasant event and the best way to start a weekend.
