The Gecko Tour turns five years old and does so in splendid shape. The new season arrives full of good news, with a renewed image and a more powerful and interesting tournament schedule than ever. The best winter circuit in Europe does not stop growing and Spanish and international professional golf should be congratulated. We are facing a new Gecko with the same passion and enthusiasm as always.
The big news of the Gecko Tour is the launch of a new official website. It is thegeckotour.com, more accessible, manageable and informative. The new logo has a more modern image, in keeping with a circuit that attracts many of the best players in Europe every year.
The season will begin on October 27th at the Torrequebrada course, a classic of this circuit that will travel through the most prestigious venues on the Costa del Sol. Important courses such as Finca Cortesin or San Roque Club, venues for years of European Tour tournaments as important as the Open de España or the Volvo World Match Play, will return to the Gecko. In addition, the Gecko Tour will visit El Parador, Guadalhorce, Santa Clara, Marbella Golf CC, Atalaya Golf, Rio Real, Alcaidesa Golf, Mijas Golf Club, Los Naranjos, La Quinta Golf, La Cañada, Almenara Golf, Guadalmina Golf Club and La Reserva de Sotogrande.
A total of fifteen events are scheduled so far, plus the grand finale, The Gecko Masters, scheduled for March 21 and 22, 2016 in La Reserva. It is a very complete and juicy calendar, which will distribute more than 200,000 euros, although the circuit is still working daily and does not rule out at all the incorporation of new events. All tournaments are three-day tournaments and count towards the national ranking. Another sign of growth.
The Gecko Tour is also launching this year a new format that will delight amateur players. It is the Pro-Am Series. There are four tournaments that will be played at Finca Cortesin, San Roque and La Reserva and will have their own amateur classification. These Pro-Am Series have two aspects. On the one hand, it will bring professional golf closer to the amateurs and on the other hand, it will carry out solidarity work, since the proceeds from each event will be donated to the Ernie Els Foundation for the fight against childhood autism.
