Mario Galiano has concluded as number 1 in the 2014 European Amateur Ranking prepared by the European Golf Association (EGA), which has closed the count of scoring events for this year.
Mario Galiano has accumulated 1,232.98 points throughout his magnificent season, surpassing the Swedish Marcus Kinhult (1,221.97) and the Italian Renato Paratore (1,221.43), who have ended up escorting the golfer from Cadiz in the aforementioned European Amateur Ranking.
This is the first time in history that a Spanish golfer has achieved this achievement since the European Golf Association established this Ranking in 2005.
This important recognition reflects the outstanding career of the golfer from Cadiz throughout 2014, which began in March with the second position in the RCG Sotogrande Cup – an international tournament that hosts a good number of the best players in Europe – and his contribution to the victory of the European team in the Europe-Asia/Pacific Match held in India.
Subsequently Mario Galiano scored two individual victories in Spanish territory, the Madrid Championship and the Barcelona Championship, prelude to one of the most important achievements of the season, his valuable contribution to the gold medal in the European Team Championship, becoming the only Spanish player who has won the gold medal in the European Team Championships U16, U18 and, now, Absolute.
Back in Spain, Mario Galiano was proclaimed runner-up of the Spanish Absolute Championship, surpassed only by the Basque Jon Rahm, author of a memorable feat on the last day of competition.
As a culmination -although this tournament has been left out of the EGA’s calculation to establish the 2014 European Amateur Ranking-, Mario Galiano has recently participated in the bronze medal for Spain in the World Team Championship, another remarkable fact that shines his extraordinary record.
