Combustion gives way to electrification also in the most iconic vehicles of the major brands. Mercedes-Benz and its G-Class could not be left behind in the electric race and have launched the G580.
Mercedes-Benz G580, the electric all-terrain vehicle is already on the market.
For this reason, the German manufacturer has launched the G580, a beautiful off-road beast of more than 3 tons (3,085 kilograms), 587 hp and a maximum torque of 1,165 Nm. Despite its high weight, the G580, 4.62 meters long and 1.99 meters high, shows its power and agility by reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in 4.7 seconds.
Its top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h, something that should not really worry the user of one of these SUVs, who probably has a supercar in his garage to experience much higher speeds and more vertiginous accelerations.
Off-road capabilities
Unmatched in its off-road capabilities, the G-Class has advanced features to tackle steep climbs, deep water and challenging slopes. Its solid structure and sophisticated all-wheel drive system provide superior stability and control in difficult environments.
For the bravest, the G580 offers stability with a maximum inclination angle of up to 35 degrees, equivalent to a 70% slope. This electric-powered 4×4 has 25 centimeters of ground clearance, a 32-degree angle of attack and is capable of climbing slopes of 45 degrees.
The Mercedes-Benz G580 is designed for wading depths of up to 85 centimeters. Difficult terrain is no excuse for this electric vehicle from the German brand.
Four engines and a range of 473 kilometers
The four individually controlled electric motors are powered by a battery with 116 kWh of useful capacity that is integrated in a structure that prevents water and dirt from entering, and is protected by a 26-millimeter-thick bottom panel. The maximum total range promised is 473 kilometers (660 in the city) and can be charged at a maximum of 200 kW in direct current, so that it is able to go from 10 to 80% in 32 minutes. The mixed WLTP consumption is 30.3 – 27.7 kWh/100 km.
Classic silhouette with modern touches
The exterior of the new 100% electric G-Class combines iconic styling with modern touches. Its classic silhouette, reflecting its off-road heritage, now features elements such as the classic grille or the Black Panel with illuminated contour. A choice of a design rear deck, design hood or spare wheel, along with aerodynamically optimized wheels signify its evolution. It is the legacy of the G-Class reimagined for the electric age.
Interior elegance
Adventure meets elegance inside the G-Class, where compact offroad DNA and modern technology combine to offer an unparalleled experience.
Here, every detail is designed to exceed expectations, from the MBUX system to the offroad cockpit, ensuring that the G-Class not only maintains its status as one of the world’s best SUVs, but also as a symbol of maximum ride smoothness and capability.
Manufaktur: The value of individuality
Manufaktur offers an almost unlimited variety of customization options and exhibits infinite potential in terms of design and elegance. The new G-Class 580 with EQ technology features the widest selection to date, with exclusive materials carefully selected for their excellent quality. Its range of 28 paint and numerous upholstery versions is complemented by exceptional craftsmanship, ensuring that every detail is executed with precision and expertise.
With Manufaktur, the most sybaritic G-Class owners get a masterpiece designed to their needs. The Mercedes G580 is not a vehicle suitable for all budgets: its base price is 164,000 euros. This amount would be for the Excusive finish.
The Superior would cost 8,427 euros more and would include among other things the Active Multi-Contour Seats Plus package, Nappa leather upholstery as well as exclusive elements and stitching in diamond design. The final price will depend on the choice of the numerous customization options offered by the brand.
