Miguel Ángel Jiménez returns to the Champions Tour. From Friday 23 to Sunday 25 he will take part in the Mitsubishi Electric Championship, the tournament that opens the 2015 season and is held at the Hualalai course in Hawaii, sponsored by one of the brands that has signed the Malaga-born player as an ambassador around the world.
Miguel Ángel Jiménez: “This year I have started with a lot of enthusiasm and with the same illusion as 27 years ago, when for the first time I played the complete European Tour after getting the “card” in ’88.
“Despite the fact that I am 51 years old, I still feel fit, competitive and with my “azotea” in place; besides, this time I have the incentive of having three new sponsors: Mitsubishi Electric, Bobby Jones and Lamkin Grips, who support me and have believed in me. To continue signing sponsorships at my age is a real privilege.
“I am very grateful to the three companies and I hope to meet their expectations; I am confident that we will establish a fruitful and friendly relationship, not just a business one. During the six years that I organized the Andalucia Open as a tournament promoter, I understood the value of a sponsor and I am willing to give my all for them: I will wear their brands with pride.
“This week I’m playing the Champions Tour, then back to Europe and participating in tournaments in Malaysia, Thailand and India, then back to the U.S. the week of the WGC Cadillac in Miami…a couple of rounds around the world!”
Kiyoshi Furukawa, CEO of Mitsubishi Electric: “Miguel Angel Jimenez symbolizes our philosophy: he constantly strives to achieve ‘something better’, just as we continue to grow and innovate. We are pleased to join his image to ours, as his achievements and attitude towards life demonstrate passion and absolute commitment.”
The president of the Bobby Jones clothing brand, Andy Bell, said he was “very pleased to partner with Jimenez, one of the most easily recognizable players on Tour, the result of a combination of an engaging personality and incredible talent. Tuning in to Miguel Angel has been an easy task and, given his respect for the game and for Bobby Jones, we are confident that he will be a great ambassador for our brand”.
Bob Lamkin, President and CEO of Lamkin Golf Grips: “Miguel Angel is a curious case, an athlete who has captivated the attention of fans with an incredible game, as well as an overwhelming personality and an admirable attitude towards life. He is very demanding with himself and with the material he uses, that is why he has been using our grips for more than a decade”.
