Mysterious billboard denounces golf as bad for fidelity

A mysterious “naive wife” has become the talk of the media and social networks in Ireland after she warned with a large billboard about the risks of golf to fidelity.

“Golf is a passport to dirty weekend trips with the cronies. Wake up girls… A naive wife.”

This is the message that any driver on the M50 freeway leading to Dublin from the north of the capital, near the airport, has been able to read for the past two days.

While waiting to identify the mysterious woman, the media and social networks are speculating on the meaning of a text that “says so much and, at the same time, so little,” according to, for example, the Irish Times.

In cyberspace, one reads comments from those who feel pity or compassion or sympathy for the allegedly cheated wife, while others believe it could be a planned publicity campaign.

Among the most obvious possibilities is that of one of the many Dublin travel agencies offering package vacations to destinations such as Spain, which are popular with groups of friends who are keen on the sport.

The ad is plastered on the trailer of a truck parked along the highway that once belonged to the Howarth Bros. trucking company, a name that still appears on the vehicle.

A spokeswoman for the company told several media outlets Tuesday that the phone has been ringing off the hook with questions about the woman’s identity, but explained that they have “no idea” about it, as the company sold the trailer to another firm six years ago.
