Jon Rahm and Sergio García, the only Spaniards involved in a professional tournament at the beginning of the year 2021, have started the season in a convincing way, finishing seventh and eleventh, respectively, in the Sentry Tournament of Champions held in Hawaii.
The two Spanish golfers came to this first tournament of the 2021 PGA Tour season with the best intentions, reflected in a good performance that in the case of Jon Rahm has brought him the first Top 10 of the year.
The Basque player, initially weighed down by a round of 70 strokes, reacted later by delivering a card of 66 strokes that lifted him to a tenth place that he subsequently maintained through a third round of 69. Imbued in a good dynamic of hits, Jon Rahm scratched three more places to the final ranking thanks to a final round of 67 in a competition that brings back good memories to the Basque player, since he was second in the 2018 edition.
Sergio Garcia, meanwhile, exhibited his best game during the first and third day, both 67s that framed a round of 71 in the second, combined actions that also led the Castellon native to the provisional tenth position from where he tried the assault on a better result in the last 18 holes of competition. His final 69, although good, did not prevent him from losing a position on the leaderboard.
The Sentry Tournament of Champions has brought together a select group of 42 golfers led by the number 1 in the World Ranking, Dustin Johnson, also placed in eleventh place next to the aforementioned Sergio Garcia. The victory went to the American Harris English, who beat the Chilean Joaquín Niemann on the first playoff hole.
