Rahm finishes second in first tournament of the year, won by Dustin Johnson

Professional golf on the major Tours has kicked off 2018 in Hawaii, where it hosted the Sentry Tournament of Champions, part of the PGA Tour calendar. In this inaugural tournament of the year, Jon Rahm has been second after a fantastic performance in Kapalua, Hawaii, only bettered by a huge Dustin Johnson.

The world number one, aware of what could be a tight head-to-head finish with the Spanish golfer, worked hard to avoid risks, and this led him to shoot the best round of the tournament, a 65 (-8) that made vain the efforts of his rival.

Johnson won with -24, eight strokes less than Jon Rahm, who was the best among the terrestrial players. In his final round, six birdies and two bogeys outlined a card of 69 strokes that allowed him to beat Brian Harmar in the final sprint.

In any case, a promising and exciting start to 2018 for Jon Rahm, who begins the year as he ended the previous one, sailing among the best in the world of golf.

In the third round, which he had the opportunity to share with Jordan Spieth, Jon Rahm dispatched a sensational card of 66 strokes (-7). A sequence of birdie – eagle – birdie between holes 14 and 16 gave him the option to play his first Sunday of the year with a chance of victory.

The lead was already then for Dustin Johnson, as fit as usual. The American was the leader with a -16 total after scoring a 66 in the third round. Between the world number one and Jon Rahm, who was four strokes behind, was Brian Harman with -14.

In the first two rounds, Jon Rahm signed cards of 71 and 70 strokes, confirming the excellent references built throughout 2017.
