Rahm wins, is already number two in the world and in two weeks he could be number one

The boy from Barrika is impressive. He is fulfilling the great expectations he aroused when he was still an amateur and that he signed when, a year and a half ago, he moved to the professional world. Jon Rahm is writing a new great history of Spanish golf and could soon become the fastest player to become number one in the world. At the moment, thanks to his victory this Sunday in the CareerBuilder Challenge, he has climbed one place in the world rankings, at the expense of Jordan Spieth, and is already number two. If luck and good results accompany him, in two weeks he could become the second Spaniard to reach the top of the world ranking, a merit that until now has only been held by one of his compatriots, Severiano Ballesteros. José María Olazábal and Sergio García reached the second place in the world ranking.

Rahm’s triumph coincided with that of Sergio García in the Singapore Open of the Asian Tour. Since 2005 there had not been a double Spanish triumph in unison. Then it was also Sergio, on the American Tour, and Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño, on the European Tour.

Rahm has 9.58 points in the world ranking and is 1.35 behind the number one, Dustin Johnson. Sergio maintains his tenth position, with 5.85 points.
