Rene Zimmer has been for many years one of the main responsible for the unquestionable success of Finca Cortesin, the internationally recognized and award-winning resort located in the municipality of Casares.
Under his supervision as general manager is a complex that, on a 215-hectare estate, includes an 18-hole golf course, five-star hotel, spa, sports area and beach club, as well as a residential area.
-How would you describe Finca Cortesín succinctly?

-At the heart of everything we do at the resort is the emphasis we place on the experience. Whether it’s on the golf course, at the spa or in one of our restaurants, we make sure that every detail is considered to ensure that our most discerning guests enjoy an experience like no other.
-Scenario of three Volvo World Match Play Championship (2009, 2011 and 2012), will Finca Cortesín host another world-class professional tournament?
-Hosting the Volvo World Match Play Championship really helped put Finca Cortesin on the world golf map, and we would love to host another major event soon. Everything is in place to do so and the course is “tournament ready”. We would welcome the opportunity to host a European Tour event, and the course layout is ideally configured for the match play format.

Finca Cortesin is an exciting and challenging course and, with lakes, elevation changes and complex greens that have been incorporated into Cabell Robinson’s world-class design, there is always something new to experience and enjoy.
We are continually looking for ways to improve the course and now is the ideal time to come and play. Three years ago we became the first golf course in Spain to replace our greens with an optimum type of Bermuda grass, and the result is that they are in better condition than ever, with the greens running smoothly, honestly and quickly throughout the year.
The service we offer all our golfers is second to none, from the moment they arrive and warm up on the driving range to the complimentary refreshments we provide on the course. And recently we have further enhanced the service by upgrading our fleet with the latest Club Car buggies.
-What sets the Nicklaus Academy at the resort apart from other golf academies on the Costa del Sol?
-Golf is a difficult game at the best of times. Finca Cortesin is committed to providing the best golf experience possible and it is imperative that our golfers have access to the latest technology available.
The significant investment we have made in our teaching facilities in recent years places our academy not only among the best in Spain, but also among the best in Europe, and the very personal expertise offered by our coaching team, led by our director of instruction, Ricardo Jimenez, reflects the resort’s approach to everything we do.
