Sergio, one of the six most likely to win the Open

Sergio Garcia is one of Jordan Spieth’s five most serious rivals in the British Open. At least that is the opinion of the Irish Times, for whom one of those who have the best chances of truncating Spieth’s path to his third consecutive Major is New Zealander Danny Lee. Apart from the latter and the Spaniard, the other three that the Irish newspaper cites as serious contenders for the victory are Rickie Fowler, Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood.

Lee, 24 years old and described by the newspaper as “the second fittest player on the planet”, has finished 25th, first and third in his last three appearances, winning the Greenbrier Classic, which was his first victory on the American Tour.

Still, bettors are not overly confident in a Lee victory this week, as his win would pay 101 to 1.

According to the world ranking of the aforementioned hypothetical great rivals of Spieth, the best placed at the moment are Fowler, fifth, and Garcia, tenth. Lowry is 45th, Fleetwood is 47th and, curiously, the furthest back, 69th, is Lee.
