Spanish triumph in the North American University League

Spanish golfer Scott Fernandez has inaugurated his international record in the North American University League by winning the VCU Shootout held in Richmond.

Scott Fernandez, who won the Spanish Junior Championship this year before moving to the United States after the summer to join Iowa State University, was previously part of the Spanish national teams, contributing to the victory over Italy in 2009 and the Lacoste 4 Nations triumph in 2010.

With this first place in the United States in the VCU Shootout, the player from Granada adds to an outstanding career this year that includes, in addition to the aforementioned Spanish Junior Championship, the England-Germany-Germany-Finland-Spain Quadrangular Match and two second places in the Balearic Cup and the Andalusia Cup.

Scott Fernandez accumulated 205 strokes – through cards of 66, 69 and 70 strokes – over the three days of competition at the VCU Shootout, one less than East Carolina’s Adam Stephenson.

Two birdies on the last two holes were decisive in the Spanish golfer’s victory, on the verge of beating the Iowa State University record for three-round tournaments, set in 2006 by Joe Cermak with 204.
