Swedish golf is in luck thanks to its representative Pernilla Lindberg, who has achieved her first victory in an LPGA Tour tournament and not just in any tournament, but in the first major of the season, the ANA Inspiration, played since Thursday at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, and which was settled on Monday in a playoff between the European and the Korean Inbee Park. American Jennifer Song had also tied at -15 with these two players, but was knocked out of the playoff on Sunday, just before the great final duel between Lindberg and Park was suspended until the next day due to lack of light.
The playoff was settled on the fifth hole thanks to a birdie by Lindberg (par for her rival), who, as is tradition, ended up throwing herself into one of the ponds of the Californian club. The fourth place in the tournament was shared by Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn and the American Jessica Korda, one stroke ahead of the three protagonists of the playoffs.
Lindberg, 31, has ten professional titles to his name. The other nine were won on the European Tour.
Spaniards Azahara Muñoz and Beatriz Recari finished in 20th place with -7 overall, eight strokes off the lead. Carlota Ciganda missed the cut.
