Target 2023: a program created for juniors with an eye on the Solheim Cup

Representing your country and continent in a major international competition such as the Solheim Cup, a duel that pits the women’s teams of Europe and the United States against each other every two years, is a priority objective for every high-level player. Soaking up the atmosphere and spirit of the tournament is also a unique and incomparable experience.

All of this will be available to the participants in the Target 2023 program, an initiative promoted by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, in coordination with the company Deporte & Business, which will offer its top ranked players the chance to experience a magical week at the Solheim Cup to be held this year in Toledo, Ohio (USA).

The RFEG and Deporte & Business have launched this program to improve the performance of elite golfers and encourage competition among the youngest golfers with the option of qualifying for the European team of the PING Junior Solheim Cup 2023, which will be held on the Costa del Sol as a prelude to the Solheim Cup 2023 and will take place in Finca Cortesin, Andalusia, for the first time in history in September 2023.

To this end, throughout the 2021 season a ranking will be established to achieve all the objectives set within the program, whose rules and operating system will be based on the criteria used by the RFEG Youth Technical Committee for the National Youth Ranking 2021 contained in RFEG Circular 65/2020 dated December 23, 2020.

The top two ranked players at the end of the last round will enjoy a trip sponsored by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation to the PING Junior Solheim Cup 2021 to be held on September 1 and 2 in Ohio (USA), where they will share time and experiences with the European team of the PING Junior Solheim Cup 2021 and then feel the excitement of living the most important women’s competition in the world, the Solheim Cup, which will be held from September 4 to 6 in Inverness Club.

The 2021 Ranking calendar includes four scoring events: the Spanish Championship U18 Women to be held from March 18 to 21 at Sherry Golf (Cádiz); the National Junior Women’s Championship to be played from April 9 to 11 at La Torre (Murcia); the Spanish Championship U16 Individual Women to be played from April 30 to May 2 at Alicante Golf and, as a closing event, the Spanish Championship Individual Women’s Championship to be held from May 31 to June 3 at RCG La Coruña.

The registration period for the first event, the U18 Women’s Spanish Championship 2021 (event scoring for the Women’s World Amateur Ranking (WWAGR), as well as for the U18 and U16 Women’s National Amateur Rankings 2021) is now open and ends on Thursday, March 4 at 23:59 hours.

The Solheim Cup 2023, an event of exceptional public interest whose official venue is Finca Cortesín, is sponsored by PING, Costa del Sol and Rolex as global partners; and by Andalucía, Acosol, Marbella Town Hall and Benahavís Town Hall as official partners. Solán de Cabras, Eversheds Sutherland and Casares Town Hall are official suppliers. Marca and Radio Marca are official media. LET, LPGA, RFEG, RFGA and Deporte & Business collaborate in its organization.
