The Old Course of Atalaya hosted with great success the first tournament of the X Circuito Andalucía Golf Challenge Destino República Dominicana.

The magnificent Old Course of Atalaya Golf has hosted the first Andalucía Golf tournament of this year. As it happens with all the tournaments organized by the magazine Andalucía Golf/España Golf, there were players of different nationalities, predominantly Spanish in this case. All of them enjoyed a splendid sporting day, with splendid sunshine, a pleasant temperature and no wind, on the prestigious course designed by Bernhard Von Limburger and inaugurated in 1967, followed by lunch at the facilities of the Costa del Sol club located in the municipality of Estepona.

The competition distributed numerous gifts -both to the best classified and during the raffle- sponsored by the Fairway+Blue store in Puerto Banús, Holiday Golf Group and Denominación de Origen Somontano wines.

The amateurs who attended the tournament generally played at a good level and enjoyed the course in an entertaining day of sport.

The awards ceremony, at the Atalaya clubhouse, where a paella and salad were served, was presided over by Antonio Sánchez and Luis Navarro, from Andalucía Golf.

As for the sporting results, in the first category the victory went to Andrey Shultse, with 39 points, while the second and third positions were won respectively by Juan Carlos Mackintosh Cutillas and Alain John Navarro, both with 37 points. In the second category, the winner was Pablo Ortega Briesemeister, with 42 points, second was Ismael Ortega Calvente, with 39 points. Ismael Ortega Calvente, with 39 points, and in third position was classified, with one point less, Antonio Muñoz Lanzas. The scratch winner was Juan David Carretero Castillo, with 37 scratch points.

The special prize for the closest ball to the flag went to Celia Nebot, while the prizes for the longest drive were won by Karina Budantseva and David Doyle.

The Andalucía Golf Challenge, an open amateur circuit organized by the magazine Andalucía Golf / España Golf, celebrates its first edition this year. tenth anniversary and it does so by considerably increasing the number of venues where it will be held: sixteen (plus the grand finals), six more than in the previous edition. It also extends its geographical area, reaching more parts of the country, since in addition to the Costa del Sol it will be held in the provinces of Madrid, Seville, Segovia and Cadiz.

In addition to the usual emblematic courses of the Circuit, this year it will be played at the Real Club de Golf de Sevilla, Golf Santander (Madrid), Retamares (Madrid), Los Ángeles de San Rafael (Segovia) and Fairplay Resort (Benalup, Cádiz). The Costa del Sol venues are, in order of date of play, the following: Atalaya Old Course, RCG Guadalhorce, Mijas Los Lagos, Santa Clara Marbella, Valle Romano, RCG Sotogrande, Los Arqueros, RC Valderrama, San Roque New Course, Flamingos Villa Padierna, La Reserva de Sotogrande and Finca Cortesín.

As was the case in 2018 (in 2019 the destination was the Riviera Maya), the top five in the circuit will be awarded a a one-week trip to the Dominican Republic, with a stay at all-inclusive basis at the five-star hotel Luxury Bahia Principe Bouganville, and with golf on the spectacular courses Ocean’s 4, Punta Espada and Teeth of the Dog. The planned date for the trip is from October 26 to November 2, 2020.
These five winners will come out of the grand final of the circuit, to be held on August 29 at Finca Cortesin, the scene of three editions of the Volvo World Match Play Championship. The top three in each of the two categories plus the best scratch classified in each tournament will enter the final. The first two in each category and the scratch winner of the grand final will win the prizes for the trip to the Dominican Caribbean.
