The Real Club Valderrama will not be affected by the acquisition of the Valderrama group by Zagaleta Limited, an English company belonging to the holding company of the La Zagaleta Group, based in London and owner of the homonymous urbanization located in Benahavís (Málaga). The aforementioned golf club has a concession of the Valderrama golf course until 2050, a situation that is not altered with the change of ownership of the famous golf course which was the venue for the 1997 Ryder Cup.
The Valderrama group owns, among others, the companies that own the Valderrama golf course, located in Sotogrande, San Roque (Cádiz), considered the best in Spain and one of the best in the world, as well as the future project known as Valderrama 2, located in the municipality of Castellar.
The transaction, valued at 40 million euros, and whose legal, tax and financial advice was entrusted to the firm Price Waterhouse Coopers, also includes some developable plots around the Valderrama golf course as well as all the registered trademarks.
The plans of the La Zagaleta Group in the Valderrama 2 Project contemplate the development of a “Championship” Golf Course designed by one of the most prestigious and renowned architects (the name will not yet be revealed), which will place it in the frame of reference of the current Valderrama golf course, as well as a residential tourist and hotel resort comparable to the quality standard achieved by La Zagaleta.
The residential development will be inspired by the philosophy and values determined by the real estate, financial and services business model that has been successfully developed by La Zagaleta in the Benahavís and Marbella area for more than 25 years. The project will involve an investment of more than 200 million euros over the next 10 years.
In the words of Jacobo Cestino, Managing Director in Spain of Grupo la Zagaleta: “This transaction consolidates our leadership position in the luxury real estate market and also links us with one of the most prestigious golf brands in the world. The company does not rule out the acquisition of other luxury and lifestyle brands in the medium term”.
Valderrama Golf was designed by the specialized architect Robert Trent Jones, and is considered the best course in Spain and, according to the Golf Digest ranking, the best in Europe and one of the hundred best in the world. The course hosted in 1997 the first edition of the Ryder Cup held in Continental Europe, captained by Severiano Ballesteros and has hosted most of the editions of the Volvo Masters (1988-1996 and 2002-2010) as well as the 1999 and 2000 editions of the American Express World Championships.
The representatives of La Zagaleta Limited have previously informed the Board of Directors of the Real Club de Golf Valderrama about the acquisition of the group, in that sense they have conveyed the will and desire to collaborate with the Real Club de Golf Valderrama, currently tenant of the golf course, to facilitate its conservation, privacy and exclusivity, maintaining its management with the independence and autonomy that have made it one of the Golf Clubs of reference in Europe.
Created in 1991, La Zagaleta Group gives its name to one of the most exclusive and secure resorts in Europe which, with a total surface of 900 hectares, of which almost 500 are green areas, includes, in addition to a heliport, the La Zagaleta Country Club with 2 golf courses and 1 Equestrian Club, both for the exclusive use of its members and guests. The company that maintains a rigorous and strict financial control obtained between 2014 and 2015 an accumulated profit of fourteen million euros. La Zagaleta is currently building new homes for 2016, whose prices will range between 12 and 14 million euros.
Currently, more than 230 homes have been built on plots ranging in size from 3,000 to 10,000 m2 and with prices ranging from 5 to 25 million euros.
The La Zagaleta group is listed on an OTC market in Zurich.
