Tiger and Lindsey Vonn break up after nearly three years of relationship

Skier Lindsey Vonn (30) and golfer Tiger Woods (39) announced last night that they have ended a relationship of almost three years.

“After nearly three years together, Tiger and I have decided to end our relationship. I will always be fond of the memories we have created together,” Vonn wrote on her Facebook account.

“Unfortunately, we both lead very hectic lives that force us to spend most of our time apart. I will always admire and respect Tiger. He and his precious family will always have a special place in my heart,” adds the skier.

Tiger Woods, via his personal website agrees with Vonn: “Lindsey and I have mutually decided to end our relationship. I have great admiration, respect and love for Lindsey and I will always look back fondly on our time together.

“She has been amazing with Sam and Charlie and my entire family. Unfortunately, we lead very hectic lives and we’re both competing in demanding sports. It’s hard to spend time together,” Woods notes.

Woods and Vonn announced in 2013 that they were a couple and, since then, were frequently seen at each other’s competitions. Both had to undergo lengthy recoveries that prevented them from competing in their respective sports.

Woods participated in this year’s Masters and is expected to compete this month in Florida at the Players Championship. Vonn, meanwhile, returned from knee surgery to break the all-time record for the number of awards in the history of women’s skiing.

Lindsey Vonn is a four-time winner of the overall Crystal Globe in the alpine skiing World Cup, a circuit in which she has 67 victories. She is also a one-time Olympic and two-time world champion. Tiger Woods has won 14 majors: four Masters, four PGA Championships, three British and three US Opens.

Before starting his relationship with Vonn, Woods had starred in a scandalous divorce from model Elin Nordegren in 2010. That marital breakup came barely a year after the golfer made headlines for his infidelities.

More than a dozen women claimed to have had an affair with Woods and the athlete acknowledged “transgressions”. Numerous companies then terminated their sponsorship contracts with Woods.
