
Rory McIlroy, the world’s No. 1 golfer, and Sir Nick Faldo, who is retiring from competitive golf this July, are two of the top ten richest sportsmen in Britain and Ireland according to the annual list published by the Sunday Times.
McIlroy, 25, and Faldo, 57, a six-time Grand Slam tournament winner, are eighth on the list of British and Irish millionaires with a fortune of £38 million.
Two-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton tops the list with £88 million earned this year followed by Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney with £72 million.
Another well-known billionaire in the world of sport is Jenson Button, F1 driver who is third with a personal fortune of £71 million. The report, compiled by the Sunday Times Magazine, reveals the fortunes of the 1,000 richest people in Britain and the 250 richest people in Ireland.
