Toro, official sponsor of the Solheim Cup 2023 in Finca Cortesín

Toro has been chosen as the official supplier of irrigation systems and machinery equipment for the management and maintenance of the turf for the 2023 edition of the Solheim Cup, which will take place at Finca Cortesin from September 18 to 24, 2023. The club also renews its partnership with the brand and its official distributor in Spain, Riversa.

Since 1990, the Solheim Cup has combined the tradition and prestige of the sport with the passion for defending continental teams on either side of the Atlantic. This team championship brings together the top twelve European players from the Ladies European Tour (LET) and the top 12 American golfers from the LPGA Tour. Spain will host the Solheim Cup for the first time in the tournament’s history at Finca Cortesín thanks to the collaboration of public and private entities in a project coordinated and promoted by Deporte & Business.

The exclusive Finca Cortesin resort on the Costa del Sol features a championship-ready golf course designed by Cabell Robinson, as well as a luxury hotel and spa. The golf course, whose reputation transcends borders, consistently appears in the list of the top five golf courses in Spain in specialized publications such as Golf World and Golf Digest.

“Finca Cortesin strives for excellence in everything we do, from our golf course to our hotel and restaurants,” said Vicente Rubio, president of Finca Cortesin, hotel, golf and spa. “We have renewed our partnership with Toro in support of our commitment to achieve and deliver the highest standards of quality as the host of the 2023 Solheim Cup.”

As part of the agreement, Finca Cortesin will acquire new Toro machinery such as the Greenmaster 1026 and the Greenmaster eTriFlex 3370 electric mower. “We have introduced a series of measures at the golf course to be at the forefront of environmental sustainability, and the incorporation of the eTriFlex electric mower is the perfect complement,” said Íñigo Soto, greenkeeper at Finca Cortesin. “We chose machines with lithium-ion battery technology because of the reduction in noise and pollutant emissions, as well as the excellent cutting quality they offer.”

The agreement with Toro also includes efficient models that comply with the regulations governing Stage V engine emissions implemented in 2019 in the European Union. The Reelmaster 7000-D and Groundsmaster 4500-D are part of this new generation of fuel-efficient machines that will be used to maintain large areas of turf on the golf course in preparation for the championship.

“Preparing for a tournament as important as the Solheim Cup requires high-level equipment and a committed team,” Soto added. “We look forward to working with Toro and counting on the support of our local distributor, Riversa, as preparations for the championship progress.”

In addition to being played for the first time in Spain, the 2023 Solheim Cup will mark another historic milestone as, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the event will be held just prior to the Ryder Cup, scheduled for September 28 to October 1, 2023 in Rome.

“It is an honor to be an official sponsor of the 2023 Solheim Cup, and we are thrilled to continue our relationship with Finca Cortesin,” said Rick Olson, president and CEO of Toro. “As the official supplier of the Solheim Cup in Spain and the Ryder Cup in Rome, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to support both competitions, back-to-back and showcasing the best men’s and women’s golf professionals in Europe and the United States.”
