The prestigious course, scene of the historic 1997 Ryder Cup, two American Express World Championships and sixteen editions of the Volvo Masters, among other major international competitions, has been the luxurious setting for the fifth and last Andalucía Golf Challenge Tournament this year, after having been played previously at Finca Cortesín, Río Real, Marbella Club and Flamingos.
The weather conditions were up to the exceptional playing field, extraordinarily presented, as the sun shone splendidly and enjoyed a summer temperature despite having already passed the halfway point of the month of October.
The competition gave away valuable golf equipment (clubs, bags, shoes, etc.) from Holiday Golf and long-distance trips sponsored by Turkish Airlines. In addition, all participants received a bottle of Gran Reserva wine from the Somontano appellation of origin and a gift from the Casino de Marbella.
The amateurs who attended the tournament, foreigners and nationals from various Spanish provinces, played, in general, at a good level and enjoyed both the course and the good weather.
As for the results, in first category Peer Falkenberg won, second was Pedro Miguel Cevey Mendoza and in third position was Manuel Diaz Cano. In the second category, Faris Ayoub won, second place went to Javier Burgués Hoyos, and in third place Tommy Eriksson and Jesper Hertz tied.
The prize for the best ladies’ score went to Alsie Mobert, who recorded 24 points. The prize for thelongest drive went to Stephan Tjiellander, while the prize for the closest ball to the flag went to Karl Nyqvist.
The awards ceremony, at the clubhouse facilities, where a magnificent cocktail was served, was presided over by the editor of Andalucía Golf, Antonio Sánchez, and the director of operations of the host club, Eduardo Ruiz.
