They are organized by PROMOTUR and will be held on October 6 and 7 at the Hotel Meliá La Quinta in Costa del Sol.
The 8th edition of the International Conference on Golf and the Environment organized by Promotur (Association of Residential, Sports and Health Tourism Companies of Andalusia) will be held at the Hotel Meliá La Quinta (Nueva Andalucía) Marbella on October 6 and 7.
During two intensive days, some thirty Spanish and foreign speakers, specialized in golf and environment, golf course management, use and application of new technologies, etc.. will develop a program specially designed for golf course directors, managers, greenkeepers, maintenance managers, golf course owners and investors, consultants, engineers, environmentalists, biologists, wastewater treatment companies, desalination companies, gardening and landscaping companies, travel agencies, golf tour operators, hoteliers, etc.. In fact, a program specially designed for all the wide range of professionals and companies that move around this key industry in our community of Andalusia.
The coordinator of these conferences, conceived more than eight years ago by the president of Promotur, Ramón Dávila, is José Andrés Ramos, who has been in charge of this task since the third edition.
José Andrés, agronomist engineer by the University of Córdoba, specialized in golf after completing a Golf Expert Course at the University of Cádiz and doing internships in golf courses in Sotogrande. Since 2005 he works as Technical Director in the Tourism, Golf and Environment Consultancy RD GOLF CONSULTING and collaborates as Environment and Golf Advisor with PROMOTUR.
“I am in charge,” he says, “of preparing the program proposal, searching for and selecting speakers, proposing topics that I consider innovative and interesting for the sector…”
-Is this year’s conference going to have any special feature?
-We always try to ensure that the conferences offer new developments in the sector and present the latest studies and research in the field of golf and the environment.
In this edition, as usual, we will cover topics related to the environmental sustainability of golf courses, as well as the tourism aspects of golf and everything related to the management of golf courses from the point of view of environmental, economic and social sustainability.
And, as always, we will introduce new topics such as the application of geographic information systems, intelligent irrigation systems, or the application of new technologies and renewable energies to golf courses. We have speakers from both private companies and specialists from several Spanish universities who are dedicated to golf research. I would like to highlight among them Grant James who will develop the theme “Landscaping in golf courses in the Middle East” and who comes from Dubai.
-Why Marbella again for this VIII Conference on Golf and Environment?
-We have returned to this city as a location for the same because there is undoubtedly a greater acceptance here for these conferences. Previous editions have been held in Puerto de Santa María, Mijas, Málaga, Almería, Córdoba, etc…. But there is always a greater receptivity in Marbella because of the concentration of golf courses here and also because of the greater number of companies related to the golf industry on the Costa del Sol.
