England’s Lee Westwood has moved into second place in the world rankings after winning the Thailand Championship almost unchallenged with a final lead of seven strokes over runner-up Charl Schwartzel of South Africa. Westwood, a former world number one, now occupies second place after overtaking Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy. The English player did not need to defend the income he already had and without risking too much he was again one of the best in the last round, increasing his lead to seven strokes, a huge advantage. Sergio Garcia, from Castellón, finally finished in twenty-fourth place, with 288 strokes and 22 strokes behind the winner. The player from Borriol, the best Spaniard in the world ranking, in seventeenth place, shot rounds of 76, 71, 70 and 71 strokes.
