Players were welcomed by sunny but not overly hot weather and a westerly wind that provided an added challenge when they teed up in the seventh edition of the 2019 Andalucía Golf Challenge Destination Riviera Maya Golf Club Bahía Principe in Mexico Circuit at the magnificent San Roque Old Course.

Organised by Andalucía Golf/España Golf and sponsored by Riviera Maya Bahía Príncipe, Exxacon and Reale-Galpe, the tournament attracted both Spanish and foreign players — as is customary on the popular annual amateur circuit.

In addition to the prizes presented for each tournament (top-brand clothes from fairway+blue boutique, DO Somontano wines, sports equipment, etc.), the top five finishers in each category won places in the grand final of the circuit with a chance to opt for one of five trips to Riviera Maya that includes flights, hotel accommodation (in Riviera Maya Bahia Principe Resort) and golf at three extraordinary courses in the Mexican Caribbean: Riviera Maya Golf Club, El Camaleón Mayakoba (a US PGA Tour tournament venue) and Playa Paraiso.

The top finishers at San Roque in category one, obtaining a place for the grand final, were (in order): David McGregor (39 points), José María Gil Osorio (39), Thomas Doyle (36), David Steele (35) and Gustaf Browall (34).

In category two, the five making it to the grand final were: Antonio Muñoz Lanzas (39 points), Martin Malone (38), Kathleen Goeminne (37), Paloma García Gálvez (37) and Alejandro Suanes Crespo (36).

The scratch winner was David McGregor (34), the special prize for nearest to the pin went to Patrik Ljungmark, and the prizes for longest drives were won by Patrizia Zimmermann and Gustav Browalf.

The day of golf concluded at San Roque’s superb clubhouse with an excellent cocktail reception, prize-giving ceremony and gifts raffle.
